Facility Policies
The Biophysics Core Facility is a user facility owned and operated by The Program
in Biomolecular Structure at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
Facility Users
The Facility provides professional collaborations and instrument time to researchers
associated with nonprofit organizations in addition to private institutions. You
may contract with us to analyze your samples or in some cases, you may learn to
operate our instruments to analyze your own samples.
There are 3 types of Facility users based on how they are charged:
Daily Users are casual users who pay as time is needed.
Major Users can pay an up-front fee and receive
benefits such as discounted per-use cost.
Grant Applicants are those who received
grant funding to purchase a particular instrument.
TRAINING. We provide training for visitors who
operate the instruments. Or, you may contract us to run your experiments for you.
Check the Training Section for more details.
If We Run Your Sample, you must complete an electronic sample submission form
which can be linked to from either the costs page or
the appropriate instrument page. After submitting the form, we will review your
request and contact you to arrange delivery of your sample.
Scheduling
Most instruments are scheduled on a "first-scheduled first-served" basis.
All scheduling is done with the online calendar.
You may register for an account by visiting the calendar and clicking on [Update].
All users have email links on the calendar in case you need to contact a user.
They are also asked to provide a phone number on the calendar.
If you reserve time and decide to not use it, you must delete
your time on the calendar at least 48 hours in advance or you may be charged for
instrument time.
DATA BACKUPS. Users are responsible for backing
up and storing their data on appropriate media. The hard drives will be cleaned
of extraneous data each month.
DATA PROCESSING. In some cases, you may
install the instrument software on a computer in your laboratory for further processing.
Contact us for details.
INVOICING. You will be invoiced when you
accrue $500 in costs or yearly, whichever comes first. Ensure that the Facility
staff knows where to send the invoice.
Instrument-Specific Policies
There are 2 Biacore instruments in the Core Facility. The Daily
Users have access to Biacore #1 and the Grant
Applicant Major Users have access to Biacore #2. Ensure that you reserve the
appropriate instrument on the scheduling calendar.
The Biacore is scheduled for 24 hours from 9 am to 9 am. If someone is scheduled
to stop the day before you start, please check with them to ensure that they will
be done in time for you to start.
Each daily user can schedule up to 3 consecutive days. Major
Users of Biacore #1 and Grant Applicants
(Biacore #2) may schedule at any time.
Any user may schedule additional consecutive days only
after Thursday noon of the preceding week of use.
Reserve time at least 48 hours in advance.
On the schedule, include the cell holder that
you need so that we can ensure that it will be ready for you.
Walk-ins are welcome, but we do not guarantee that the correct
cell holder will be installed.
